Visme Report Finds 83% of Content Creators Still Apply Brand Assets by Hand, Even When Starting From a Template

Visme PR Staff

Washington, D.C. – Visme, the AI-powered content platform for business teams, has released The Brand Execution Gap 2026, a report on why brand consistency breaks down between the guidelines and the finished file. The report is based on a survey of 607 people at mid-market companies across the US, UK, Canada and Australia: 304 brand owners responsible for guidelines, assets, templates or approvals, and 303 content creators who produce business content with those resources.

The biggest finding is about templates. 99.7% of content creators work from a template, but only 16.8% say the brand is already applied for them. The other 83% still apply brand assets or rules by hand.

Templates are a starting point, not a finished file

Only 1.3% of creators say a template is usually ready to use as it is. Many templates don’t come from a formal library at all: 28.7% of creators copy a colleague’s document and adjust it, and 26.4% build from scratch in the company’s brand style. When the content doesn’t fit the template, the creator has to make the brand decisions.

“Every team has a template library. But even then, a huge problem shows up the moment the copy runs long or a chart needs another column. That’s when people start adjusting spacing, picking content components and colors. A lot of the time, they’re guessing, and that’s where the brand slips.”

Orana Velarde, Head of Content, Visme

Brand information lives in too many places

58% of content creators leave their content tool to look up a brand color or font, and 62% of brand owners keep their guidelines in three or more places. The report also found that 42% of creators have sent content out and only found out afterward that it was off-brand.

Brand owners carry the cost

66% of brand owners spend three or more hours a week on brand questions, reviews and fixes, and 59% field brand questions at least once a day. Among brand owners who manage three or more brands, the share losing three or more hours a week rises to 74%.

Unread guidelines are not the main issue. 47% of brand owners say the biggest obstacle to brand consistency is that colleagues know the basics but lack the skills to apply them. Only 16% point to colleagues not reading the guidelines.

“Most companies already have guidelines, templates and a review process. Yours likely does too. But there’s always a gap in the process when it’s time to build new content. Our survey shines a light on how brand owners tend to spend three hours a week answering branding questions and fixing the team’s work. That’s why the brand needs to live inside the tool where content gets made, guiding and controlling the outputs.”

What else does the report cover?

The Brand Execution Gap 2026 is organized around five findings: confidence, know-how, effort, brand information sprawl and templates. It also covers what brand owners say would help most, with 38.5% choosing templates that apply the brand automatically, and where AI could support brand decisions.

The report closes with a look at how LAFC’s partnership team built a shared slide library with the brand already applied, and what changed in their review process.
